(2.)UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA – Upper St. Clair High School math teacher and curriculum leader Steve Miller has received the President’s Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.He is one of just four teachers in Pennsylvania – and 215 – across the country to earn the honor.

(3.)Established in 1983, the award is kindergarten, the highest honor awarded to 12th grade math and science teachers from the US government. Miller was a finalist for the award in 2017.

(4.)Miller said in a district release, “The Presidential Award recognizes teachers who have devoted themselves to continuous reflection and improvement of their craft for the betterment of their students.” “Joining this group is both humble and inspiring. It is a big responsibility to live up to the standards set by past awardees.”

(5.)Nominees for the award complete a rigorous application process, requiring them to demonstrate content knowledge and ability to adapt to a wide range of learners and learning environments. A panel of scientists, mathematicians, education researchers, school and district administrators and teachers reviewed the applications at the state and national levels.
